Montgomery County, Ohio, is partnering with Centerville to host a polystyrene recycling event on Saturday, and the meeting between recyclers and residents will help raise awareness and promote recycling in the community.
The recycling activity is very popular, with recyclers appearing from 10 am to 4 pm. Saturday, January 2nd, in the activity center park. More than 200 residents participated in the first hour of opening.
In fact, polystyrene material has not been welcomed by recyclers due to its large volume and light weight. The purpose of this recycling program is to raise resident’s awareness of recycling and prevent recyclable polystyrene foam from continuously entering the landfill.
What happens to the collected polystyrene foam?
The collected polystyrene material needs to be further processed by a polystyrene recycling machine to reduce the recycling costs. The processed foam block is not only convenient for storage and transportation, but also can be sold at a higher price than loose foam material.
The polystyrene material will be transported by ECO Development to its facility and used to make new foam products like surfboards, picture frames and coat hangers.
This is the first time Montgomery County has hosted a polystyrene recycling event. Organizers say they are very pleased with the good response and plan to carry out more polystyrene recycling programs in the future.
