It is reported that approximately 45000 tons of expanded polystyrene(EPS) are produced and consumed annually in Australia, in which most of them are not in longer term use, such as our packaging boxes, food containers and coffee cups.
In Australia, about 40% of EPS products are single-use or short-term packaging which can be recycled after being used. However, we are currently only recycling about 27% of the EPS packaging, so there is enough opportunity to recycle more.
EPS is a kind of light rigid foam, which is widely used as packaging mediums. Its shock absorption properties enable it to store and transport fragile and expensive items such as electronics, chemicals and wine.
A recycling company in Australia recycled household EPS packaging and fuses. EPS transportation is always a problem during the recycling process at the beginning. To solve the problem, the company adopted GREENMAX EPS densiifer to help reduce the foam volume. The densifier can deal with a large number of abandoned EPS wastes, and save large space for their convenience. The company is a good example that recycles EPS boxes and turn waste into money.
The growth in EPS recycling has also increased the demand for this materials, and the recycled EPS materials are commonly used to make new foam products like photo frames in the decoration industry. Many local companies also begun to expand their business and are now supplying manufacturers in the construction sectors.
EPS recycling is not only a good action to reduce environmental pollution, but also bring new business and improve the employment rate. We hope that EPS recycling industry to continue to grow better and be supported by the local government. Anyway, we are responsible for our actions.
